WORSHIP
Jesus told the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s Well, “But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship Him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth” (John 4:23-24). At the Cumming Church of Christ we seek to be the true worshippers that the Father desires.
God deserves to be worshipped the way He desires and has the right as God to demand that we worship Him His way. He has rejected worship that did not fit His desires in the past. He rejected Cain’s worship because he brought of the fruit of the ground rather than a meat offering (Genesis 4). He rejected Nadab and Abihu’s worship because they offered strange fire (Leviticus 10). Jesus said of the hypocritical Pharisees, “But in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men” (Matthew 15:9).
At the Cumming Church of Christ, we are seeking to put the fear and reverence for God back into worship. We accomplish this by doing simply what the Bible tells us to do. Worship must be done the right way, at the right time, doing the right things, with the right attitude. Our worship is done decently and in order as God commands (1 Corinthians 14:40). New Testament worship was simple, focused on God’s glory; not filled with extravagant rituals focused on man’s entertainment.
The New Testament commands that as part of our worship we sing (without the accompaniment of mechanical instruments) (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16-17); partake of the Lord’s Supper every first day of the week (Matthew 26:26-29; Acts 20:7); pray (Acts 2:42); give (1 Corinthians 16:1-2); and preach/read God’s Word (Acts 20:7).
Come join us this week and worship God in spirit and truth, because the Father longs for your worship!
